The Environmental Management program prepares students to transfer to a four-year institution in environmental management. In addition, it provides the academic background for promotion opportunities. The program prepares students through a combination of technical courses in environmental science and related areas and basic courses in English, mathematics, communication, and business areas. Students are exposed to various facets of environmental management ranging from regulatory compliance to sustainable development. The new paradigm of management and prevention is stressed in addition to control and remediation.

The maximum number of credits accepted in transfer from other institutions to this program is 47.

Local Transfer Option:

This program of study is part of an articulated partnership with University of Maryland University College (UMUC). Students successfully meeting the requirements of this associate’s program can transfer the necessary credits to UMUC and complete their Bachelor of Science in Environmental Management through courses offered in Southern Maryland and online. Contact an advisor for recommended course selection.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will

  1. Prepare and communicate technical information in written, presentation and graphic formats.
  2. Describe the basic organization and processes of business and the role of environmental management within it.
  3. Apply a basic understanding of the scientific method and its real world application.
  4. Interpret and communicate environmental laws/regulations in an operations or business context.
  5. Conduct and communicate basic process and product reviews and analysis.
  6. Prepare operationalized programs to meet project or operation objectives.
  7. Employ physiographic data in the analysis of problems and the development of solutions.
