This program option** is designed for part and full-time students with an academic and/or professional degree in English. Students who complete this option of the General Studies degree can complete their BA in English at the University of Maryland University College.

The maximum number of credits accepted in transfer from other institutions to this program is 45.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will

  1. Generate complex literary topics with a rhetorical purpose
  2. Apply the grammar and mechanics of standard written English with complex syntax and college-level diction
  3. Argue a reasonable position on a subject of literature or film
  4. Analyze and apply correctly documented credible sources and evidence
  5. Demonstrate an understanding of the essential role of the human experience in literature or film
