SOC-2400 - Global Societies* (B, C) (3) Prerequisite: POL 1050 or ECN 1200 or GRY 1050 or SOC 1010 OLD DESCRIPTION TO BE REPLACED: The student will focus on the study of the Third World including specific parts of the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The course encompasses the cultural change in the context of global, social, economic and political systems. The student will learn about men and women in these varied societies. This course satisfies the General Education Social/Behavioral Science requirement and the Core Competency for Cultural and Global Awareness.
NEW COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course examines poverty in global perspective with a focus on low-income societies. Students analyze cultural change, the foundations of global health, global education and literacy, global social movements, and the responses from low-income societies to address pressing problems in the cultural and global context.
