ART-1030 - Introduction to Art Appreciation (A) (3)

Students are introduced to the fundamental elements of art. Sources of study include selective readings, slide lectures and discussion. The class explores the principles of design and the visual characteristics of art in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional format. The class learns to look at objects of art and, through an informed perspective, to appreciate the value such objects hold in society. The most important purpose of this course is for the student to further enhance an interest, appreciation, and understanding of the fundamental elements of style and aesthetic development in the visual arts. There is a great deal of required reading and at least one field trip to an area museum.  This course satisfies the General Education Arts requirement.
