BIO-1200 - Introduction to Oceanography* (S) (3)

Prerequisite:  Reading Placement; or RDG-0800; or take one of the following:  IRW-0900A ; IRW-0900B ; IRW-0900C    
Students examine the origin and history of the ocean basins and physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of the ocean from the intertidal zone to the abyss, and from the tropics to the poles. Marine life, resources, and pollution are studied.  This course satisfies the General Education Biological Science requirement.

List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections)
CO1 - Explain why oceanography is considered an interdisciplinary science.

CO2 - Identify the marine environmental problems that are associated with petroleum pollution.

CO3 - Distinguish among the following oceanic zones that are based on the availability of light: a. euphotic (photic) zone b. disphotic zone c. aphotic zone.
