EGR-1210 - Statics* (3) Co-requisite: MTH-1210 ; PHY-1210 ; PHY-1210L or PHY-1310
Topics include scalar and vector solution of problems involving equilibrium of structures subjected to various forces, couples and distributed loads, determination of the internal force system in beams and trusses, friction, centroids, and moments of inertia.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Determine the components of a force in rectangular or nonrectangular coordinates.
CO2 - Determine the resultant of a system of forces.
CO3 - Draw complete and correct free-body diagrams and write the appropriate equilibrium equations from the free-body diagram.
CO4 - Determine the support reactions and connection forces in trusses and framed structures.
CO5 - Determine the internal reactions in a beam, draw correct shear-force and bending moment diagrams, and write equations for the shear-force and bending moment as functions of position along the beam.
CO6 - Analyze systems that include frictional forces.
CO7 - Locate the centroid of an area.
CO8 - Calculate the second moment of an area, calculate the principal second moments of an area.
