HLS-2360 - History and Overview of Weapons of Mass Destruction* (3)

Prerequisite: HLS-1015   
Students study the history and characteristics of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD), including nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical weapons. Also covered in the class is a comparison of lethal and incapacitating agents. Students discuss the various methods used to detect and handle WMD, the use WMD to create mass casualties, their demoralizing psychological impact upon the populace, and which countries possess WMD or the ability to produce them.

CO1 - Discuss the history, development, and various types of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) to include nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons.

CO2 - Discuss the potential deployment and the various types of dispersal capabilities available to terrorists of a WMD.

CO3 - Discuss potential terrorist targets for deployment of WMD.                                                                

CO4 - Discuss the concept of “cyberterrorism” as a WMD and its potential impact on US infrastructure.

CO5 - Discuss various controversies and the politics surrounding terrorist activity and the continued proliferation of WMD.
