HMS-1032 - Interpersonal and Counseling Skills (3)


Students are provided an overview of counseling theory focused on establishing healthy relationships with clients and staff. Attention is given to skills of engaging, attending, responding, personalizing, and initiating. Students learn techniques of objective observation and case assessment. Interviewing, group process and counseling skills are developed.

List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections)
CO1 - Develop specific interviewing counseling skills and competencies to conduct a full interview using only listening skills.

CO2 - Analyze the basics of the solution-oriented interview.

CO3 - Apply the fundamental principles, generalizations, or theories to practice interviewing techniques of attending, listening, confronting, focusing, reflecting, and influencing by utilizing the micro-skills hierarchy.

CO4 - Utilize an ethical decision-making model with multicultural populations.
