BIO-1650 - Survey of Microbiology* (1)

Prerequisite: Reading Placement; or RDG-0800; or take one of the following:  IRW-0900A ; IRW-0900B ; IRW-0900C  
Students study different groups of disease causing microorganisms and how they are transmitted and controlled.

CO1 - Explain the structure and function of bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses.

CO2 - Identify the role of bacteria, fungi, protozoa and viruses in the disease process.

CO3 - Discuss the importance of epidemiology and immunology to disease control.

CO4 - Describe the processes used to control microbial growth in our water and food supply.

CO5 - Define the terminology that is used to describe the process of immunization.

CO6 - Describe the types of vaccines available to the public and the pros and cons of their use.

CO7 - Explain the proper use of antibiotics and the means to combat antibiotic resistance.
