MTH-1015T - Introduction to Statistics* (M) (3)

Prerequisite: Math placement or  MTH-0993   
In this introduction to descriptive and inferential statistics, students learn about presentation ofdata, measures of central tendency and dispersion, the binomial and normal probabilitydistributions, sampling techniques, correlation and regression, and hypothesis testing (z-test, t-test, chi-squared). Examples are selected from education, business, and the social and naturalsciences. This course satisfies the General Education Mathematics requirement. MTH-2300 is now MTH-1015.

List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections)
CO1 - Recognize simple, compound, and complimentary events and assess their probability.

CO2 - Select the correct model and construct the regression line to describe a linear relationship between two quantities.

CO3 - Describe the center, variation, and outliers in a data set using the median, quartiles, mean, standard deviation, and z-score.

CO4 - Solve problems involving the normal distribution.

CO5 - Construct a confidence interval to estimate a population mean or proportion and interpret the results.

CO6 - Use the P-value to evaluate the results and make a conclusion in a statistical test of a hypothesis.
