This associate of arts program is designed for part- and full-time students with an interest in music. This option prepares students fortransfer to a four-year Maryland state college or university. Students are encouraged to consult with the coordinator of music for the appropriate level of private instruction, ensemble, and coursework for transfer.

The maximum number of credits accepted in transfer from other institutions to this program is 45.

About Private Instruction and Ensembles:

All students in the music program option must register for a music ensemble each semester. Additional lessons or ensembles may count as electives.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will

  1. Demonstrate their understanding of the elements of written music theory and analysis with its accompanying aural components.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the various classical and vernacular musical traditions, styles, and literature in historical, cultural, and global contexts.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to apply their musical knowledge and experiences through private instruction and/or public solo or ensemble performance.
  4. Appraise and critique a variety of musical events and performances as observer and participant.
