Students develop a working knowledge of construction site practices and prepare for entry-level management responsibilities. Successful construction managers need to be skilled in scheduling and supervising workers, estimating costs, obtaining equipment and materials, working with designers and planners, securing permits and licenses and assuring safe practices at the building site. In addition to developing these skills specific to the construction industry students also develop their competency in writing, basic mathematics, communications, drafting, accounting and management. Utilizing technologies and applying customer relations skills are emphasized. Graduates are prepared for such positions as team leader, supervisor, project manager, construction superintendent, cost estimator, or site inspector.
During the program students may complete cooperative education courses, using construction-related work in exchange for credit toward the AAS. Entering students who have previously completed a recognized four-year construction-related apprenticeship program may qualify for advanced standing and substitute prior learning for the cooperative education courses. New students interested in this option are advised to confer with a college advisor and the Construction Program Coordinator prior to enrolling in the program.
The maximum number of credits accepted in transfer from other institutions to this program is 45.

- Become employable as a project manager, cost estimator, quality assurance manager or safety director.
- Explain and demonstrate the various functions that a project manager will perform on the job.

- Implement scheduling processes with tools such as master scheduling and other electronic computerized systems that will allows work to proceed smoothly with little or no lost time between construction phases.
