Business Management, AAS with Concentrations

This degree program prepares students who are currently employed as well as those without prior work experience to develop the skills required of managers in a variety of business settings. Introductory courses expand knowledge and skills in a number of business disciplines, while upper-level courses and electives allow students to specialize to suit their career plans.

The Business Management AAS program provides students with a broad background in the functional areas of business, such as accounting and finance, management and strategy, marketing and communication, and human resources and leadership. Students may either continue their studies or find entry-level employment in the field. While there are some transfer opportunities for students in the Business Management AAS program, students interested in transferring to a 4-year college should consider completing the Business Administration AS degree program.

The Business Management Associate of Applied Science degree program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs. Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will

  1. Communicate in a variety of domains, including writing, speaking, listening and reading, while respecting the impact of technology on effective communication.
  2. Employ critical thinking skills to evaluate the practical implications of organizational policies, decisions and strategy.
  3. Identify, research, analyze, and solve complex business problems using appropriate technological and analytical tools.
  4. Identify and communicate the variety of risks and opportunities of doing business in a global environment.
  5. Identify, evaluate and articulate defensible resolutions to practical social responsibility and ethical dilemmas.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of traditional business functions including computer information systems, accounting, marketing, economics, finance, leadership, strategy, and management science.

Business Management: Construction Management Concentration


In addition to the core skills provided in the overarching Business Management AAS curriculum, the Construction Management Concentration prepares students for construction management practice and entry-level management responsibilities in the construction field. Students gain knowledge and skills in construction project management and implementation, including the ability to prepare construction documents, cost estimates, and project schedules; perform site inspections; manage resources; and work with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.

Business Management: Digital Marketing Management Concentration


In addition to the core skills provided in the overarching Business Management AAS curriculum, the Marketing Management Concentration provides students with a broad understanding of business and a focus on digital marketing. Students gain skills analyzing, interpreting, and presenting in both traditional marketing and social media environments.

Business Management: Hospitality Management Concentration


In addition to the core skills provided in the overarching Business Management AAS curriculum, the Concentration in Hospitality Management equips students for management positions in the hospitality industry. Students gain skills in supervision of front office operations, housekeeping management, and food and beverage services, as well as marketing and the use of information systems in the hospitality industry.

Business Management: Retail Management Concentration


In addition to the core skills provided in the overarching Business Management AAS curriculum, the Retail Management Concentration focuses on the knowledge and skills necessary for leadership roles within the retail industry. Students explore management concepts in both small and large retail environments preparing students to assume positions of managerial responsibility in the retail industry.

Business Management: Small Business & Entrepreneurship Concentration


In addition to the core skills provided in the overarching Business Management AAS curriculum, the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Concentration covers the essential concepts of starting and operating a small business. Students develop skills in business communication, management, marketing, customer relations, and operating a small business with a socially responsible mindset.

Business Management: Technology Management Concentration


In addition to the core skills provided in the overarching Business Management AAS curriculum, the Technology Management Concentration highlights the critical role of information technology in business operations. Students learn how to use information technology in business applications for systems analysis and decision support. Students gain knowledge in project management.
