Students completing this degree program will be prepared to seek entry-level positions as junior or paraprofessional accountants in business, industry, government, or public accounting firms. Students currently employed in the accounting field can expect to increase their potential for advancement in the field. Courses emphasize general knowledge from a number of disciplines as well as specialized accounting skills.

Students desiring transfer to four-year colleges should consider the business administration transfer degree. Discussions of this choice with an academic advisor are highly recommended. These discussions should begin very early in the student’s program of study. Cooperative education is available in this program.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will

  1. Identify and apply generally accepted accounting principles and/or international financial reporting standards.
  2. Communicate with others concerning financial information by using appropriate accounting terminology.
  3. Analyze, record and classify various accounting transactions.
  4. Prepare basic financial statements.
  5. Interpret financial data and demonstrate critical thinking skills.
  6. Demonstrate proficiency in written and/or oral communication.
  7. Demonstrate a general understanding of individual taxation.
