Graduates of this program will be prepared for careers as engineering technicians capable of performing a variety of tasks in support of engineering, scientific and technological areas of business, industry or governmental operation. Employment in this field is expected to increase much faster than other occupations due to anticipated continued strong demand for computers, communication equipment, and technical products. More technicians will be needed to help develop, produce, and service these products.

Students will develop competencies in the general skills of engineering technology and will study related subjects necessary to provide a broad educational foundation. Students will tailor the program to meet their individual career needs through the selection of electives in chemistry, physics, electronics, computeraided drafting, information technology, or engineering.

The maximum number of credits accepted in transfer from other institutions to this program is 45.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will

  1. Identify professional, ethical, security, and societal issues related to engineering technology.
  2. Combine fundamental engineering technology principles and the use of modern tools to select and implement the methodology required to solve engineering technology problems demonstrating appropriate safety practices.
  3. Work effectively with other members of an engineering team to perform tests, analyze results, and recommend a course of action.
  4. Setup, develop, and modify as necessary engineering drawings using modern Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software.
  5. Describe and compare mechanical properties of engineering materials and modern manufacturing technologies.

Course availability within the program sequences is specifically intended for full-time students who begin their course work with the fall semester.
