This associate in arts transfer option** is designed for part- and full-time students with a specific academic and/or professional interest in the areas of art, music, theatre, dance, philosophy, languages and literature, and history. This option introduces these disciplines within the context of allied subject areas, preparing students for specific concentrations at a four-year Maryland state college or university.

The following is a sample list of occupations for which such a concentration might be appropriate: actor, artist, theatre director, dancer, journalist, editor, musician, teacher, civil service employee, lawyer, architect, librarian, historian, public relations, and museum/art gallery curator.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will

  1. Demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the fundamental elements of the performing and visual arts, with an emphasis on the design and/or thematic elements common to all media
  2. Demonstrate aesthetic and technical proficiency in the creation, organization and presentation of a developed portfolio
  3. Demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the roles the arts, humanities and language play in our culture, and an appreciation of the arts, humanities and language from a global perspective
  4. Demonstrate effective communication skill when describing, critiquing and analyzing works from the arts, humanities and languages
  5. Demonstrate analytical and critical skills in the various disciplines that comprise the arts, humanities and language
  6. Properly document information obtained from research for course assignments
