Nuclear Engineering Technology: Electrical, AAS

The Associate of Applied Science Nuclear Engineering Technology: Electrical degree will have both an instructional and industrial focus.  The instructional focus of the program will result in the accredited Associate of Applied Science degree integrating the education and training required for graduates to maintain and repair highly complex electrical/electronic equipment required for a nuclear plant.  Complementing the instructional focus, the industrial focus will be on electrical utilities and energy related-systems. Students and faculty will work with industry to demonstrate the ability to install, inspect, troubleshoot and test electrical equipment such as motors, generators, controllers, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers and batteries.

This program will be using the Nuclear Uniform Curriculum Program (NUCP) as developed by the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) for use in the Nuclear Power Plant industry.

Students who complete the program with a grade point average of 3.0 or above and no grade lower than a “B” in the core courses will receive, in addition to the Associate degree diploma, a certificate of completion signed by Calvert Cliff Nuclear Power Plant and National Academy of Nuclear Training.  This certificate is accepted at all Nuclear Power Plants in the United States and will signify the student’s completion of an NEI’s NUCP based curriculum of study.

Prospective students must meet specific academic and personal background standards prior to admission to the program.  Students may need to go through various background checks, including a criminal background check, prior to the co-operative education course.  Students must maintain a grade of “C” or better in all required courses in order to progress in the program.  Candidates must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for admission:

  • high school diploma or GED
  • placement into ENG-1010 and MTH-1000 (or above)
  • submission of the application to the program, to include criminal background and drug use history

First consideration will be given to residents of CSM’s service area.  All candidates will be selected and admitted using criteria in the Nuclear Engineering Technology program information booklet.  After reviewing the booklet, applicants are advised to meet with the Nuclear Engineering Technology Program Coordinator to discuss details about the program.
