HST-1019 - Medieval Civilization (3) This course will investigate the history of Europe and the near East (500 A.D. to 1400 A.D.) from the breakup of the Roman Empire to the dawn of the Renaissance. Students will study the political, economic, social, and cultural development of the Middle Ages and how the society arose and interacted in both peace and war. They will investigate such themes as Kingship, Feudalism, East Asian Empires, and their interaction with trade in the Middle East and influence into Western Culture, the Three Ordered Triangle, the Crusades and its interaction with the Middle East and their culture, and Carolingian ruling structure. It will also address such issues as West-East trading contacts, Muslim influences in the Iberian Peninsula ,and the cultural impact of Islam and its interaction with Western Christianity.
