BIO-2010L - Microbiology Lab* (S) (1)

Co-requisite: BIO-2010

Students study representative groups of microorganisms including protozoa, bacteria, and fungi. They also learn culturing, staining, and various biochemical procedures used to identify microorganisms. These procedures are then used to identify unknown bacteria. Students also learn how microbial growth is physically and chemically controlled. This course satisfies the General Education Biological Science requirement.

List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections)
CO1. Differentiate between various eukaryotic and prokaryotic microorganisms using a microscope.

CO2. Evaluate the effectiveness of antiseptics, disinfectants, and antibiotics using microbiology lab techniques.

CO3. Demonstrate competency in laboratory safety and in routine and specialized microbiological laboratory skills applicable to microbiological research or clinical methods.

CO4. Use proper bacteria specific identification techniques, including staining and biochemical analyses, to identify unknown bacteria samples.
