The Photography AAS degree prepares students for a challenging career path that integrates the disciplines of the photographic arts and digital technology. The graduate is prepared to perform a variety of technical photographic functions including working with both digital and film cameras; understanding contemporary studio lighting techniques; editing and outputting images with current software and with traditional materials; managing images with an appropriate workflow; and  maintaining photographic equipment in a professional manner.  Additionally,graduates will receive a strong foundation in the formal elements of design, as well as an understanding of the history of image making in the visual arts.

The maximum number of credits accepted in transfer from other institutions to this program is 45.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will

  1. Have an understanding of camera operations, both digital and analog
  2. Be competent with photographic developing and printing processes
  3. Complete projects that demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the fundamental elements of visual communication, with an emphasis on the design elements common to all media
  4. Assemble, organize, and present a fully developed portfolio of communication materials
  5. Demonstrate effective oral communication skills when discussing, describing, critiquing, and analyzing works of photography

The following is a recommended sequence of courses for completing this program. College Prep and prerequisite course requirements, credit load, and/or course availability may affect a student’s individual progress. Course availability within the program sequences is specifically intended for full-time students who begin their course work with the fall semester.
