BIO-1010 - Botany* (S) (3)

Prerequisite: College-level reading placement or complete one of the following:  IRW-0900A   or IRW-0900B  

 
The chemistry, cell structure, and anatomy of simple and complex plants are studied. A survey of the plant kingdom includes the origin of life, life cycles, reproduction, genetics, and ecology.  Credit for this course may be earned through Advanced Placement Examination.  For students in the Arts and Sciences: Biological Sciences program, credit may not be earned for both BIO 1010 and BIO 1070.  This course satisfies the General Education Biological Science requirement.

List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections)
CO1 - Explain the fundamental concepts of biology.

CO2 - Understand basic cell structure and biochemistry particularly as they relate to plants.

CO3 - Describe the basic laws of inheritance and the principles of evolution as they apply to plants.

CO4 - Recognize the variety of ecological roles plants play in the environment.

CO5 - Demonstrate vast plant diversity as it relates to taxonomy.

CO6 - Illustrate energy flow in the environment and the role of photosynthesis in the ecosystem.

CO7 - Relate biological concepts to contemporary issues familiar to the students.
