CHE-2200 - Organic Chemistry I* (S) (3) Prerequisite: CHE-1210 and CHE-1210L Students are introduced to organic chemistry according to family, with integration of aliphatic and aromatic compounds. The basic interdependence of properties and structure is demonstrated using a mechanistic approach. This course satisfies the General Education Physical Science requirement.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Use terminology and symbolism particular to organic chemistry.
CO2 - Use IUPAC (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry) nomenclature to name compounds from select classes of organic molecules.
CO3 - Draw correct structural representations of organic molecules.
CO4 - Describe the relationship between molecular structure and chemical reactivity of organic molecules using various models.
CO5 - Apply thermodynamic, kinetic, steric, electronic and stereochemical principles to the analysis of reaction mechanisms.
CO6 - Solve multi-step synthesis problems, using the non-mathematical logic characteristic of organic chemistry.
