EDU-1051 - Child Health, Safety, and Nutrition* (3) Co-requisite: College-level reading placement or complete one of the following: IRW-0900A or IRW-0900B
Students enrolled in this course learn about the general and specific health, safety, and nutritional needs of the infant through eight-year-old child. Curricular activities designed to meet these specific needs are included in this course. National, NAEYC, and MSDE nutritional guidelines are emphasized. Students enrolled in this course will be assessed based on their use of college-level reading, writing, and communication skills.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Describe the interrelationship of health, safety, and nutrition.
CO1 - Apply components of a sound health policy, including areas of special concern regarding children’s health.
CO2 - Describe the caregiver’s role and responsibilities as they relate to management of accidental injuries or illnesses, with special emphasis upon playground safety.
CO3 - Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that teach children concepts in health, safety, and nutrition.
CO4 - Plan adequate menus for young children, emphasizing health and cleanliness relating to food safety.
