PHL-1020 - Introduction to Logic (H) (3)


Students are introduced to the principles of reasoning and valid inference. Topics include induction, deduction, analysis of statements and arguments, appraisal of classifications, hypothesis and analogies, and evaluation of definitions, meaning, content, and ambiguity.  This course satisfies the General Education Humanities requirement.

List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections)
CO1 - Explain obstacles to critical thinking such as cognitive biases and fallacies

CO2 - Evaluate competing claims on particular philosophical issues, such as the nature of knowledge, ethical reasoning, and constructing worldviews.

CO3 - Describe differences in how deductive and inductive arguments are constructed and evaluated..

CO4 - Construct rationally defensible arguments on philosophical issues

CO5 - Identify types and elements of inductive and deductive arguments
