PTA-1020 - Physical Therapist Assistant I* (6) Prerequisite: PTA-1010 ; MTH-1120 ; must be enrolled in the Physical Therapist Assistant program Co-requisite: PTA-1060 ; BIO-2180
Students are introduced to theory and develop skills in body mechanics, gait training, and assessment techniques. Emphasis is on competence in postural assessment, transfers, range of motion, manual muscle testing, basic therapeutic exercise, assistive devices, and massage. Disease processes and specific medical conditions seen in physical therapy are also studied. The lecture portion of this course is offered through distance learning and the laboratory portion is held at Anne Arundel Community College. Travel to Anne Arundel Community College is the responsibility of the student.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Identify common medical/surgical interventions for pathology of the musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular/pulmonary, and integumentary systems.
CO2 - Demonstrate safety and competence in implementing basic interventions identified in the PT plan of care
CO3 - Demonstrate competence with data collection and measurement techniques identified within the PT plan of care.
CO4 - Relate interventions and data collection methods to the PT plan of care which includes patient goals
CO5 - Demonstrate competence with documentation related to interventions and data collection.
CO6 - Apply and measure effective communication skills relating to patients, caregivers, and members of the health care team.
CO7 - Demonstrate proficiency with computer skills during written and oral presentations
