PTA-1500 - Functional Anatomy for the Physical Therapist Assistant* (1)

Co-requisite: PTA-1010

This course is designed to bridge content and learning from human anatomy and physiology coursework to kinesiology coursework. Students will participate in both hands-on learning activities and interactive Internet links to promote basic knowledge of bone, muscle, and joint anatomy and physiology. From that knowledge, students will develop an understanding of how anatomy and physiology relate to function.

List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections)
CO1 - Describe human movement terminology and types of motion.

CO2 - Joint structures and their purpose.

CO3 - Concentric, eccentric, and isometric muscle action and the role of gravity.

CO4 - Function of skeletal muscle.

CO5 - Kinematic chains and their implication towards physical therapy.

CO6 - Correctly identify muscles of action for joint motion at major joints (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle)

CO7 - Demonstrate the action line of muscles of the major joints using a tactile aid.

CO8 - Identify major bones and landmarks of the major joints.

CO9 - Identify the origin, insertion, and action of all muscles that affect the major joints of the body.

CO10-Identify muscles of action for common functional activities.

CO11-Apply bone, muscle, and joint anatomy and function to correctly and appropriately apply basic types of muscle contractions (concentric, eccentric, isometric) occurring during functional activity.Course Fee: $25
