SPA-1050 - The Culture of the Americas* (H, C) (3)

Prerequisite: College-level reading and writing placement or complete one of the following: IRW-0900A  or IRW-0900B 
Students study diverse Latino cultures that have evolved in Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean basin as well as their impact on the culture of the United States. The course focuses on the social, political, economic, and religious systems of these cultures in a historical context. This course is taught in English; no knowledge of Spanish is required.  This course satisfies the General Education Humanities requirement and the Core Competency for Cultural and Global Awareness.

List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections)
CO1- Demonstrate a basic competency about the specific content. 

CO2- Effectively express orally and in writing concepts and ideas about the culture of the Americas using a variety of applications (e.g., class presentations, quizzes, journals). 

CO3- Synthesize information, making connections within and among course materials studied. 

CO4- Apply concepts and materials studied to other theories of learning and areas of knowledge. 

CO5- Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of history’s role in, and social, political, economic, religious, race and ethnicity, and gender systems development contributing significantly to the human experience.
