THE-1010 - Introduction to Theater (A) (3) Students will study the background, framework and vocabulary for the appreciation of major areas of production (directing, acting, design, etc.) and the various historical, textual and performance elements that inform theatrical practice. This course is an introductory level survey course intended, through the study of plays and production techniques as well as play attendance, to provide students with a broad base of knowledge about the theater. This is designed to acquaint you with all aspects of the art of theater; especially the influence theater has in our society. This course satisfies the General Education Arts requirement.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Identify selected historical, philosophical, cultural, societal, and artistic contributions to the art of theatre and describe their influence on theatre today.
CO2 - Identify the main occupational opportunities available in theatre, explore the skill-sets needed for those occupations, describing how those elements come together to create a collaborative and complex piece of art.”
CO3 - Critique plays from selected genres/styles by using discipline-specific vocabulary.
CO4 - Utilize theatre vocabulary and concepts to read, view, discuss, and critique productions of plays.
CO5 - Create theatrical projects, either as a solo artist or as a collaborator.
