EMS-2534 - EMS Trauma Management* (2)

Prerequisite: EMS-1484 ; EMS-1484L ; EMS-1544  
Co-requisite: EMS-2534L  

This course focuses on the cognitive knowledge associated with the EMS trauma management. The following topics/skills are included, but not limited to: assessment and management of trauma emergencies, trauma systems, bleeding and shock, soft-tissue injury, burns; head/facial, spine, thoracic, abdomen and musculoskeletal injuries are also covered. Knowledge of skills includes, but is not limited to: assessment and management of trauma emergencies, management of shock, control of hemorrhage, soft tissue management, management of burns and chemical injuries, management of spinal injuries, stabilization and immobilization of blunt and penetrating trauma patients. 

List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections)
CO1 - Integrate comprehensive knowledge of causes and pathophysiology into the management of cardiac arrest and pre-arrest states.

CO2 - Integrate a comprehensive knowledge of the causes and pathophysiology into the management of shock, respiratory failure or arrest with an emphasis on early intervention to prevent arrest.

CO3 - Integrate assessment findings with principles of epidemiology and pathophysiology to formulate a field impression to implement a comprehensive treatment/disposition plan for an acutely injured trauma patient.
