EMS-2554 - EMS Operations* (3) Prerequisite: MTH-0910 or MTH-0992 or higher; and college-level reading and writing placement or complete one of the following: IRW-0900A or IRW-0900B Co-requisite: EMS-1410 ; EMS-1484 ; EMS-1484L
This course focuses on the cognitive knowledge associated with ambulance operations. The following topics/skills are included, but not limited to: assessment based management, triage, incident command functions, medical incident command, terrorism practices, weapons of mass destruction, vehicle stabilization and extrication, specialized extrication, decontamination, in-water immobilization, personal protection, crime scene awareness. Knowledge of skills includes, but is not limited to: vehicle stabilization, crime scene preservation, and ambulance operations.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Apply knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities to ensure safe patient, public, and personnel safety.
CO2 - Identify the Principles of Safely Operating a Ground Ambulance and Aeromedical Evacuation Operations.
CO3 - Describe the operations of Multiple-Casualty Incidents, Incident Command Management, and Rescue awareness/ Operations.
CO4 - Recognize principles of Hazardous Materials, CBRN Response, Crime Scene Awareness and Preservation, Effective Field Communications, Rural EMS Operations, Response to Terrorism, EMS Safety and Survival, and Tactical Emergency Medical Response.
