ENG-2840 - The Civil War in Film and Literature* (H) (3) Prerequisite: ENG-1010 or ENG-1010T Students read literature and view films about the Civil War and discuss the social, political, economic, and philosophical contexts of the war in American culture. This course satisfies the General Education Humanities requirement.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Identify the causes and consequences of the Civil War, its roots in slavery, and its legacy of racial violence and segregation, states’ rights, and individual freedom that are reflected in literature and films.
CO2 - Explain how Hollywood filmmakers, poets, writers of fiction, journalists, and ordinary citizens shaped their audience’s understanding, reactions to, and the public memory of the Civil War.
CO3 - Apply relevant literary critical lenses to evaluate authors and their works.
CO4 - Demonstrate careful and critical reading of the assigned literature and attentive viewing of the assigned films through personal blogs.
CO5 - Produce original texts using correct MLA formatting, citation, and documentation standards.
