EMS-1156 - Emergency Medical Technician- Practicum* (1) Co-requisite: EMS-1105 ; EMS-1105L
Students are able to participate in a variety of pre-hospital based experiences to develop the necessary competencies to properly perform the various cognitive and psychomotor skills utilized by EMT providers. Students perform patient care with real patients under direct observation of approved preceptors. This course evaluates students’ cognitive and psychomotor skills as well as determines if they possess the appropriate knowledge and attitudes required of entry-level EMT providers. A major objective of practicum experience is to apply classroom theory and laboratory skills to the work environment.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Medications skills: Appy fundamental knowledge of the medications that the EMT may assist/administer to a patient during an emergency.
CO2 - Airway Assessment Skills: Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to patient assessment and management in order to assure a patent airway,adequate mechanical ventilation, and respiration for patients of all ages.
CO3 - Patient Assessment: Apply scene information and patient assessment findings to guide emergency management.
CO4 - Basic EMT Skills: Apply fundamental knowledge to provide basic emergency care and transportation based on assessment findings for an acutely ill patient.
CO5 - Management Skills: Apply fundamental knowledge of the causes, pathophysiology, and management of shock, respiratory failure or arrest, cardiac failure or arrest, and post-resuscitation management.
CO6 - Operations: Apply fundamental knowledge to provide basic emergency care and transportation based on assessment findings for an acutely injured patient.
CO7 - Scene Safety: Apply knowledge of operational roles and responsibilities to ensure patient, public, and personnel safety.
CO8 - Special Needs Patients: Apply fundamental knowledge of growth, development, aging, and assessment findings to provide basic emergency care and transportation for a patient with special needs.
