COM-2500 - Introduction to Communication Theory* (3) Prerequisite: ENG-1010 ; and at least one of the following: COM-1010 ; COM-1250 ; COM-1350 Students are introduced to the major communication theories and their histories that are the foundation to understanding the communication discipline. These theories can be applied to intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, organizational, public, intercultural, mediated and mass communication contexts. Students planning to take COM-2500 as a substitute for COM-2950 should speak with an advisor.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Define, explain and identify fundamental communication concepts, perspectives and models in order to develop a framework for understanding communication theory
CO2 - Describe the various contexts of communication: intrapersonal, interpersonal, group, organizational, public, intercultural, mediated and mass communication, in order to understand the diversity of research within the discipline
CO3 - Understand and evaluate theories in order to explain a wide range of communication phenomena
CO4 - Apply communication theories in order to analyze human behavior and actual events
