MED-2075 - Cardiovascular Care and Procedures for Medical Assistants* (3)

Prerequisite: College-level reading and writing placement or complete one of the following:IRW-0900A  or IRW-0900B  ; MTH-0910  or higher; BIO-2170 BIO-2180  or higher; HEA-1100 ; MED-1500 MED-1550 ; ENG-1010  (Minimum grade of C)
Co-requisite: BIO-2010 BIO-2010L MED-2000 MED-2015 MED-2115  

Students learn to assist with cardiovascular procedures and the care for clients having cardiovascular procedures in this course. Topics include EKG’s, echocardiograms, stress tests, preparing patients for cardiovascular procedures, and post treatment patient care. Students also learn to provide pre- and post-procedure care in patient education.  Finally, students will perform patient assessment using cardiopulmonary testing and relate common pathophysiology to the associated laboratory tests and values.

CO1 - Communicate effectively and ethically with patients, family members and other health care professionals and in compliance with all medical regulations and laws in a cardiovascular practice system.  

CO2 - Apply the use of an electronic medical records system to effectively and accurately document all cardiovascular procedures. 

CO3 - Assist in the preparation and use of cardiovascular equipment necessary for procedures  

CO4 - Discuss appropriate patient care education for pre and post procedures.
