TED-2000 - Introduction to Special Education* (3)

Prerequisite: TED-1050
This course provides an introduction to the field of special education, including the historical, legal, and theoretical foundations; the psychological, sociological, intellectual, emotional, and physical characteristics of exceptional learners; and the contributions of research to developmentally appropriate practices, materials, and programs to assist teachers in effective instruction for students with special needs. This course meets the Maryland State Department of Education Inclusion of Special Needs Students requirement.

CO1 - Identify significant historical, legal, and theoretical factors pertaining to the education of exceptional students.

CO2 - Describe the sequence, components, and stakeholders involved in the IEP team process.

CO3 - Distinguish among major disabilities and instructional approaches/ interventions for each.

CO4 - Discuss ethical considerations in the education of exceptional learners.

CO5 - Describe ways to collaborate effectively with exceptional learners, their families, and other professionals in the field.
