This curriculum prepares students to transfer to a four-year college or university within the state of Maryland to pursue a bachelor’s degree and Maryland teacher certification in Secondary Education Grades 7-12.
Students should familiarize themselves with the program requirements of the institution to which they plan to transfer. Students should complete all elective credits in the content area in which they intend to certify.
Secondary Education: Biology, Chemistry, Earth/Space Science, English, Modern Foreign Language, Social Studies, Mathematics, Physical Science, or Physics.
PK-12 areas: Art, Dance, Environmental Education, Health, Music, Physical Education.
Students must complete at least 45 hours of supervised field experience in a public school setting as part of the degree. Students must achieve a 2.75 or higher grade point average at graduation and receive a grade of “C” or better in all courses. Students must also submit passing scores on an MSDE-approved basic skills test (Praxis Core, SAT, ACT, or GRE).
The maximum number of credits accepted in transfer from other institutions to this program is 45.
Note: Maryland has approved certification in Middle School Education Grades 4-9. Students who are interested in teaching in this grade band should follow the AAT Elementary: Generic Special Education Grades 1-6 program.
