Radiographers use x-ray equipment and specialized computer equipment to produce images of the human body. The images produced by the radiographer are used in the diagnosis and treatment of patient disease. Some radiographers specialize in specific modalities within the field of medical imaging such as mammography, computed tomography (CT), or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). They work closely with radiologists, the physicians who interpret medical images, as well as other healthcare professionals.

The Radiography Program through Prince George’s Community College requires a minimum 2.50 GPA for admission, and students must satisfactorily complete prerequisite courses with a “C” or higher, prior to petitioning. Students may repeat each course only once to achieve the required grade. The graduate of the radiography program is eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination for certification and apply for a license to practice in the state of Maryland. The Radiography program is accredited by: Joint Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), 20 N. Wacker Drive, Suite 2850, Chicago, IL 60606, 312-704-5300 (phone), 312-704-5304 (fax), www.jrcert.org.

This is a competitive admission program and may be designated as a Health Manpower Shortage program. For more information, contact the Admissions Department.
