CSM’s Data Science Certificate is organized around introductory coursework teaching students to manage, explore, model, and visualize data for descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analysis. This program will introduce students to the statistical and computational concepts, hands-on experience with industry standard statistical and programming tools, as well as introduction to current ethical issues in the field of data science.

All coursework in the Data Science Certificate counts toward the Data Science, AS degree.

The coursework in this program prepares students for these industry professional certifications:

  • PCEP - Certified Entry-Level Python Programmer
  • PCAP - Certified Associate in Python Programming
  • CompTIA ITF+ - CompTIA IT Fundamentals

The maximum number of credits accepted in transfer from other institutions to this program is 13.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will…

1. Store, process and retrieve data in diverse formats for analysis.   

2. Produce and interpret numerical summaries and data visualizations to explore insights from analysis.   

3. Establish a foundation in modeling diverse datasets to describe and test relationships among variables.   

4. Develop foundational proficiency with computer programming code to model data for experiment and analysis. 

5. Discuss ethical and moral issues impacting society in the field of data science.
