PHM-1440 - Pharmacology for Healthcare Professionals* (3) Prerequisite: MTH-0910 or MTH-0991 and college-level writing placement or complete one of the following: IRW-0900A or IRW-0900B Co-requisite: BIO-1040 or BIO-2170
This course is a study of prescription drugs, PDR use, drug classifications, drug actions, and interactions, safe drug storage, methods of medication administration, dosage calculations and documentation. Pharmacy calls and patient medications instructions are included.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Identify the drug classifications of common medications, their primary mode of action, adverse effects, and interactions.
CO2 - Perform basic dosage calculations.
CO3 - Describe the correct methods of medication administration and storage.
CO4 - Utilize primary reference sources to obtain valid information on drugs, patient educational material, federal and state legislation, and best practices associated with the healthcare profession.
CO5 - Identify and explain the laws governing the field of pharmacy and how they apply to allied healthcare professionals.
