EMS-2544 - EMS Clinical Practicum II* (2)

Prerequisite: EMS-1544 ; EMS-1556  
Co-requisite: EMS-2524 ; EMS-2524L ; EMS-2514  

Students participate in a variety of hospital- based experiences to refine the necessary competencies to properly perform the various cognitive, psychomotor and affective domain skills utilized by EMS providers. Students perform patient care with real patients under direct observation of approved preceptors. This course evaluates the students’ field skills as well as determines if they possess the appropriate knowledge and attitudes required of entry-level EMS providers. A major objective of practicum experience is to apply classroom theory and laboratory skill development to the work environment.

List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections)
CO1 - Perform a comprehensive history and physical examination to identify factors affecting the health and health needs of a patient. Formulate a field impression based on an analysis of comprehensive assessment findings, anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and epidemiology. Relate assessment findings to underlying pathological and physiological changes in the patient’s condition. Integrate and synthesize the multiple determinants of health and clinical care. Perform health screening and referrals.

CO2 - Effectively communicate in a manner that is culturally sensitive and intended to improve the patient outcome.

CO3 - Report and document assessment findings and interventions.
