MLT-1012L - Introduction to Clinical Laboratory Science Lab* (1) Prerequisite: MTH-0994 or MTH-0970 or higher; and college-level reading and writing placement or complete one of the following: IRW-0900A or IRW-0900B Co-requisite: MLT-1012
Admission to the Medical Laboratory Technology program is not required to take this course. Students learn and safely practice basic skills needed in the medical laboratory. Activities include pipetting, reagent preparation, operation of centrifuges, balances, autoclave, spectrophotometers, and microscopes. Also included are blood collection techniques, laboratory mathematics, and measurements. A passing grade of “C” is required in this course.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Safely practice basic skills needed in the medical laboratory using various equipment.
CO2 - Accurately perform serial and compound dilutions using the appropriate glassware along with serologic, volumetric, and mechanical pipettes.
CO3 - Safely practice sterile blood collection techniques.
CO4 - Accurately use laboratory mathematics to evaluate QC and make reagents.
