Students learn broad management principles that prepare them for a leadership role within local and regional EMS systems.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Describe the process of evaluating and interpreting EMS research.
CO2 - Apply QI to EMS and identify the difference between quality assurance and quality improvement.
CO3 - Discuss the time periods for retaining adults’ and minor’ medical records, fetal heart monitor records, and records of birth, death, and surgical procedures. Discuss what is meant by timeliness of charting and why it is important in a legal contract.
CO4 - Explain the term liability and what it means for the physician and other health care professionals. List seven requirements for maintaining medical records as recommended by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. List ten ways to prevent malpractice. Summarize federal, state and local legislation pertaining to EMS. Understand and apply federal, state and local specifications and procurement processes for an EMS system.
CO5 - Describe the big six leadership competencies. Identify the difference between leadership and management.
