ITS-2555 - Digital Forensics* (3) Prerequisite: ITS-2511 and college-level reading and writing placement or complete one of the following: IRW-0900A or IRW-0900B Students will navigate through each phase of the digital forensics analysis methodology using a practical and hands-on approach. Various open source and commercial digital forensic software packages will be used in conjunction with hardware-based tools to support the process. Topics such as anti-forensics measures will be examined to demonstrate the impact they can have on an investigation. Students will also explore the various laws and regulations that guide the digital forensics process during both criminal and civil litigation, network forensics concepts, as well as learn process and guidelines for incident response. In addition, students will learn how to prepare policy documentation to build and maintain a successful digital forensics laboratory. For students who plan to use personal computers, this course may have specific computing requirements. List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Define, Identify, and Apply digital forensics processes and procedures; foundations of computer networks, operating systems, file systems, hardware, and mobile devices; and current practices for data discovery recovery and acquisition.
CO2 - Recognize impartiality and protection of privacy as relates to digital forensics.
CO3 - Prepare Digital Forensics and Incident Response reports, and other documents relating to the field.
CO4 - Analyze relevant technical and legal information, and recovered data using forensics skills and tools.
CO5 - Identify and recognize laws and policies specific to digital forensics, and professional and ethical standards of conduct for digital forensics practitioners.
CO6 - Identify various types of computing systems.
