MED-1460 - Cardiopulmonary Testing* (2) Prerequisite: BIO-1040 ; BIO-1040L ; HEA-1100 ; MED-1410 This course is a study of cardiological testing and monitoring methodologies, including ECG and Holter monitors. Students develop skill in performance, interpretation and charting of ECG. Patient preparation and instruction for spirometry, radiology and ultrasound diagnostic testing are also addressed.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Explain how a breakdown in the electrical system of the cardiovascular system leads to the development of an arrhythmia.
CO2 - Demonstrate how to set up and obtain a 12-lead EKG on a patient.
CO3 - Describe how to set up and obtain a Stress Test and Holter Monitoring on a cardiac patient.
CO4 - Interpret common dysrhythmias from 12-lead EKG’s.
CO5 - Explain how a pulse ox, a spirometer, peak flow meter, body plethysmography, and gas diffusion studies are used to interpret a patient’s pulmonary function.
CO6 - Compare and contrast the signs and symptoms associated of a patient with cardiovascular and pulmonary disease.
