MED-1415 - Medical Assisting Administrative Procedures* (3) Prerequisite: MED-1410 Co-requisite: MED-1400
This course will familiarize students with basic medical assisting administrative skills. Content areas include basic communication, medical law and ethics, and medical office operational functions. Administrative skills include instruction in answering telephones, scheduling appointments, proper documentation and handling of medical records, financial responsibilities, health insurance, basic coding, and billing.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Communicate effectively and ethically with patients, co-workers, family members and other health care professionals and in compliance with all medical regulations and laws to schedule office appoints and effectively manage the flow of a medical office using manual or electronic medical records systems.
CO2 - Manage the finances in a medical practice in compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance regulations using manual or electronic recording keeping procedures.
CO3 - Apply the use of an electronic medical records system to a medical office practice.
CO4 - Differentiate between the role of a student and a licensed CMA/RMA in a medical practice in preparation for entering the medical assisting job market.
