MED-1442 - Pharmacology Lab for Medical Assistants* (1) Prerequisite: College-level reading and writing placement or complete one of the following: IRW-0900A or IRW-0900B ; MTH-0910 or MTH-0992 Co-requisite: BIO-1040 ; BIO-1040L ; MED-1410 ; PHM-1440
Medication administration, basic intravenous techniques, dosage calculations, and documentation are covered for clients across the lifespan. Content on assessment of medication orders/prescriptions, patient safety, and medication distribution is included in this course.
List Course Outcomes (consistent for all sections) CO1 - Demonstrate the correct application of the “Seven Rights of Administration.”
CO2 - Prepare and administer oral and parenteral medications to include calculation of dosage, routes of administration, types of injections and injection sites.
CO3 - Explain how medication reconciliation is used as a record keeping tool to keep track of a patient’s medication and safeguard their prescription history.
CO4 - Explain the laws and regulations associated with controlled substance prescribing, storage, dispensing, and administration.
CO5 - Demonstrate how to manage adult and childhood vaccination schedules, their correct administration, and documentation of administered doses.
